National Adoption Month Workshop: Adult Adoptee Discussion Panel

November 4, 2011

As a part of National Adoption Month, Celebrate Adoption is sponsoring a workshop featuring an Adult Adoptee Panel on Sunday, November 6 from 1-3pm at the Mayerson JCC, 8485 Ridge Road.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity to hear the voices of five adult adoptees with experience in international, closed domestic, and open domestic adoptions," says Patty Bonem, LISW, and Celebrate Adoption's professional facilitator and mentor.

"Our panelists have had diverse adoption experiences," Bonem continues. "Adoptive families and prospective adoptive families will learn about a variety of topics, including: How did their families deal with adoption; how did adoption impact them at various developmental stages (child, teen, young adult, etc.); what cultural issues have they faced; adn what degree of openness do they have with their birth families?"

Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panel as well. Foster care training hours are available.

Registration is due by Friday, November 4 by e-mailing MaryAnne Mat mfmjsm@centurylink.net or calling 513-310-5270.

The event is FREE to Celebrate Adoption members and $15 for non-members ($25 for couples). Childcare is also available through J-Play ($2/hr) with pre-registration by Wednesday, November 4. An indication of the number of children for which childcare is needed is required.
