Roorda, speaker for our annual transracial/transcultural workshop and co-author of the Trilogy of Transracial Adoption: In Their Parents' Voices: Reflections on Raising Transracial Adoptees In Their Own Voices:Transracial Adoptees Tell Their Stories; In Their Siblings' Voices: White Non-Adopted Siblings Talk About Their Experiences Being Raised with Black and Biracial Brothers and Sisters.

The Best of Transracial Adoption: The Long-Term and Inclusive Vision

Rhonda M. Roorda, M.A. is an author, speaker, and transracial adoptee.

She was raised as the only adopted child in a white family with two other siblings, an older brother and a younger sister, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Her journey in part has been one of discovery into her own self-identity through her faith in God and interactions with others; and by learning more about the many layers of transracial adoption impacting children and families.

She has co-authored three books with scholar Rita J. Simon on transracial adoption:

• In Their Own Voices: Transracial Adoptees Tell Their Stories
• In Their Parents’ Voices: Reflections on Raising Transracial Adoptees
• In Their Siblings’ Voices: White Non-Adopted Siblings Talk About Their Experiences Living With Black and Biracial Brothers and Sisters

Rhonda is also the author of a chapter in the Handbook of Adoption: Implications for Researchers, Practitioners, and Families. When time permits, Rhonda continues to touch lives through mentorship to foster care children and young adoptees, speaking engagements targeted to adoptive families, adoption agencies, support groups, and practitioners involved with adoption, and in an advisory capacity.

She currently works at an educational advocacy organization in Lansing, Michigan. Rhonda lives near Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband. At the conclusion of her 1.5 hour presentation, Rhonda welcomes questions from the audience for an open discussion.
